MassMutual Scholars - Career Pathways Program

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts manages scholarships provided by the MassMutual Financial Group. Founded in 1851, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) is a leading mutual life insurance company headquartered in Springfield, MA.

Graduating high school seniors with a strong interest in pursuing a career in business, financial services or information technology can apply for the MassMutual Scholars – Career Pathways Program.  Selected students may receive up to $5,000 per year for four academic years of undergraduate study.  Some awards may be made through a separate process. See renewable requirements below. Up to forty scholarships may be awarded each year. Recipients are required to participate in career readiness programs where they’ll take part in seminars and have the opportunity to network with MassMutual professionals.  They may also be offered the opportunity to participate in a paid internship.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Resident of Hampden County, MA or Hartford County, CT.
  • Graduating high school senior with a strong interest in pursuing a career in business, financial services or information technology.
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
  • Students must attend an accredited 2 or 4 year college / university in the states of Massachusetts or Connecticut; or Bryant University, Smithfield, RI, or Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY.
  • The online Community Foundation Application is required for consideration.  A paper application or one printed from our website will not be considered.
  • Completion of the questions that are part of the online application regarding career interests.
    1. What are your career goals in business, financial services, or information technology.
    2. Why do you want to work in business, financial services, or information technology.
  • Preference may be given to those pursuing majors within the business / financial services / information technology fields.

 

Renewable Scholarship Criteria:

The scholarship is renewable for up to three years of undergraduate study providing that a scholarship recipient continues to,

  • Maintain a B minus cumulative grade point average. 
  • Attend at least one MassMutual workshop annually as part of the career readiness program. 
  • Students must attend an accredited two or four-year college/university
    in the states of MA or CT; or Bryant University, Smithfield, RI, or
    Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY.

Except for attendance at the one workshop annually described above, participation in other MassMutual opportunities and employment at MassMutual is not required as a condition for the award of an initial scholarship or its renewal, and may be declined without jeopardizing such scholarships.
